Brides are Beautiful, But the Kids Steal the Show
I have a love hate relationship with wedding photography. Who wouldn't want to be a wedding photographer? Beautiful brides, happy people, lots of detail shots, fun and excitement. I do love them, but they make me nervous. Although I have never had to re-shoot something, I take pleasure in knowing I can. With wedding photography there is no second chance so I don't sign up for them often.
Last Sunday I shot a wedding and really enjoyed myself. It was small and simple. While I did get some great shots of the bride and groom, this one of the flower girl is one of my favorites.

Senior Pictures
I had my first Senior photo shoot the other day and Joseph was one of my best models. I went out with another photographer friend and we took Joseph and two girls. Surprisingly, Joseph seemed more into the photo session than the girls and really wanted some good pictures. He even came up with some poses he had seen that he wanted to try.
The session started a little late and ran a little longer than anticipated, but I was pretty pleased with the results.

More Fun with Katie and Jack
I had so much fun with Katie and Jack, I thought I would share some more pictures from our photo shoot.
Katie loves her little brother and has no problem showing it. Jack is more reserved but opened up toward the end.
I spent much longer with them than I usually do, but they just didn't want to quit!

Another Day with the Children
I was lucky to spend another day with Ellie. You might remember her from a post about a week and a half ago. She is a beautiful little girl and a great model. She gets bored easily but you can get her back in the mood just as easily.
This is one of my favorite shots from today. I was actually out looking for yard sales when Ellie's mom noticed this field of Dandelions. She had been looking for one for quite a while. So we stopped and asked the homeowner if he would mind if we took some photos. He gave us permission and we got busy.

Last Minute Maternity Shoot!
The other night a photographer friend of mine called and asked if I wanted to do a maternity shoot. Nothing like the last minute. It was a lot of fun, but I was not as prepared as I would have liked. All in all I was pretty please with the results. I think I would have had much better photos if I had had a little more notice. I'm not complaining because it was a lot of fun, I just would have rather been prepared better.
If you think about it, these last minute shoots are what makes us better photographers. Being able to think quickly and make use of the things we have on hand are challenging but exciting. It really brings out the creativity and isn't that what this is all about?

A New Technique
While shooting Katie and Jack yesterday, I took this one photo. As I took this shot, my cord fell out of the camera and the flash did not go off. At first I was so disappointed because Katie gave me the perfect look and smile. I almost threw this one out and I am so glad I didn't. I was skimming through a book I have, "How to Wow Photoshop for Photography" by Jack Davis and Ben Willmore. This technique turns that underexposed shot into an artsy, grainy, old film type of photo. I love the look and I loved this photo.

Photo Shoot with Ellie
Today a photographer friend of mine came over with her daughter Ellie for a photo shoot. Ellie is a great model, of course her mother is a photographer so she gets lots of practice. This is just one of many photos I took. We did shots in the studio as well as outdoors. When I am not working as a photographer, my favorite hobby is taking pictures. I just can't think of anything I would rather do.

First Roses of the Season
I love Spring because everything starts to come to life. There is so much color! These roses were two of the first to bloom in my front yard. I think they are so pretty. Next I'll post my peonies. One of my favorite flowers and they bloom for such a short time.
